Frequently Asked Questions

How long will it take me to earn my diploma?

The length of time it will take to complete your diploma depends on several factors:

  • How many Core 40 credits have you completed? (Not all credits are Core 40 credits.)
  • Have you passed all standardized tests?
  • Are your English and Math skills at high school level?
  • When are you able to take classes?

We will work with you to create a path to graduation that fits your needs.

When are classes?

Classes take place Monday through Thursday from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm. The Excel Center also offers evening classes that take place between 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm.

Do I have to attend class all day?

The greater your availability for classes, the faster you will graduate. However, the minimum time commitment is 3 hours daily.

I have children and cannot afford daycare while I am at school. What can I do?

We offer free childcare to our students while they are in class. The drop-in center accepts children between the ages of 6 weeks and 7 years as long as a birth certificate and immunization records are provided.

Is there transportation?

The Excel Center does not provide transportation, but students may be provided with Transpo bus passes based upon need and class attendance.

What is the difference between a high school diploma and a GED?

A high school diploma is awarded to students who complete the requirements for high school graduation in the state of Indiana. The requirements include earning credits in certain subjects and passing standardized tests taken by all high school graduates.

A high school equivalency diploma (formerly know as a GED) is awarded to persons who pass an exam to demonstrate high school level proficiency in the areas of math, reading, writing, science, and social studies. (Please note: The Excel Center does not offer a high school equivalency diploma.)

I attended high school a long time ago. How will you help refresh my memory?

Prior to enrolling, you will complete an assessment test to tell us which classes would be best for you when you start. We want you to succeed and will do our best to place you in classes that match your skill level.
